This first supplement to the Museum of Science and Industry Basic List of Children's Science Books contains books received for the museum's 13th annual children's science book fair. Children's science books are listed under these headings: animals; astronomy; aviation and space; biography; careers; earth sciences; environment/conservation; fiction; general science; life sciences; marine life; mathematics/computer science; medical/health sciences; physics/chemistry; plant life; and technology/engineering. Each entry contains: (1) a complete bibliographic description of the item, including author(s), title, publisher, publication date and current cost; (2) content summary; (3) reading level; (4) rating symbol that represents an editorial judgment of the book's usefulness; and, when available, (5) citations to further publications with additional reviews. Information on how to use the book and comments on the rating symbols are presented in the introductory section. Appendices contain a directory of publishers, an annotated list of sourcebooks for adults and science magazines and review journals. Author and title indexes are also included. (ML)
