Professional Conduct Manual, Containing Principles for Professional Ethics and Guidelines for the Provision of School Psychological Services.
National Association of School Psychologists, Bethesda, MD.
Consistent with its mission, the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) has adopted an integrated set of comprehensive standards for the preparation, credentialing, and professional practice in school psychology. Standards for training and credentialing, ethical principles, and guidelines for practice have undergone review and revision several times since their initial adoption. This professional conduct manual for school psychology presents the most recent revisions adopted by the Delegate Assembly of NASP on July 16, 2000 in Durham, New Hampshire. The "Principles for Professional Ethics," effective January 1, 2001, are based on the assumptions that school psychologists will act as advocates for their students and clients, and that they will do no harm. Five sections of the guidelines address the principles for professional ethics, professional competency, professional relationships, general principles for professional practice, and the independent practice setting. The eight "Guidelines for the Provision of School Psychological Services," effective July 15, 2000, are also included. Guideline topics for the organization include: organization of service unit; climate; physical, personnel, and fiscal support systems; communication and technology; supervision; professional development and recognition systems; and contracted, independent provider services.
