Energy Conservation in School Facilities. Energy Conservation in Existing School Facilities: An Overview. Energy Conservation Materials Package Number 1.
Colorado State Dept. of Education, Denver. Interstate Energy Conservation Leadership.
School energy-saving strategies can be developed and implemented at three levels: (1) programmatic--the educational program and schedule of activities taking place at the school, (2) operational--how the facility and its supporting systems are run to house and support these educational activities, and (3) physical plant and its operating system. Modifications can be made in scheduling, lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation. The establishment of training programs for personnel involved in the maintenance of mechanical systems will increase equipment life and effectiveness. Existing systems can be replaced with new mechanical systems that have better energy consumption characteristics. (Author/MLF)
