Student Voices: How Has Performing Shakespeare Helped You Appreciate His Work?
Almansouri, Orubba; Balian, Aram S.; Sawdy, Jessica
English Journal, v99 n1 p35-36 Sep 2009
In this article, three students share how performing in Shakespearean plays have helped them appreciate his work. Orubba Almansouri describes how acting out the play "Romeo and Juliet" allowed him to understand the whole story better. While rehearsing and performing "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Aram S. Balian became a true Shakespeare fan, recognizing his masterful use of subtle ironies and sarcasm. Jessica Sawdy discovered that when she performed the monologue of Lady Macbeth, she gained an appreciation of Shakespeare's writing and found inspiration in his work.
