Saxton, Juliana; Miller, Carole
Research in Drama Education, v17 n1 p7-34 2012
In this article, the authors aim to provide a multifaceted lens on to Dorothy Heathcote's enormous influence on the field of drama education. They choose to order the reminiscences historically, focusing on Heathcote's consistency of passion and purpose. The anecdotes, lesson descriptions, and reminiscences capture her voice, her energy, and her stunning ability to make it (whatever it was) real within a fictional world. The authors remember Dorothy Heathcote as a model of the reflective practitioner-in-action, unquestionably the master of the effective question and, always--from the very beginning--a pre-eminent woman of the theatre who chose to turn classrooms into worlds of possibility for them to explore. Contributing anecdotes are: Cynthia Bolton, Helen Dunlop, Warwick Dobson, John O'Toole, David Booth, Betty Jane Wagner, Susan Battye, Kathleen Warren, Lidwine Janssens, Peter O'Connor, Jonothan Neelands, Stig A. Eriksson, Margaret Burke, Christine D. Warner, Beatriz A. V. Cabral, Cecily O'Neill, Carolin McDonnell, and Carmel O'Sullivan. (Contains 1 figure.)
