Job Shadowing Introduces the Realities of Manufacturing
Frawley, Thomas A.
Tech Directions, v68 n8 p15-17 Mar 2009
Engineers and skilled tradesmen stood side by side with executives and politicians as Liverpool High School technology teacher Dan Drogo welcomed parents to a one-of-a-kind graduation ceremony at New Process Gear in Syracuse, New York. The manufacturing shadow program had immersed 25 high school students in an intensive five-week experience inside the auto industry. Job shadowing offers students first-hand insight into the realities of manufacturing careers. In this article, the author discusses Liverpool's Manufacturing Awareness Program, which offers job-shadowing opportunities for students and provides a successful solution to the question of "who is preparing skilled workers for American industry?". He describes the excellent job-shadowing experience students receive in the manufacturing awareness program.
