Promoting Self-Efficacy in Youth
Reivich, Karen
Communique, v39 n3 p1, 16-17 Nov 2010
Researchers have linked self-efficacy to a wide array of outcomes including psychological adjustment, resilience, physical health, achievement, and self-regulation, among others. In this article, the author describes self-efficacy and the factors that contribute to it, highlights the positive outcomes that self-efficacy leads to, and provides examples of how the Pepperidge Farm Goldfish Fishful Thinking initiative, which targets five key life skills for youth (optimism, resilience, goal setting, empowerment, and emotional awareness), helps parents and educators to build self-efficacy in children and adolescents.
