Structural equation modeling of data on 850 adolescents' leisure participation indicated a significant positive relationship between leisure and mental health. Leisure had a positive influence on self-efficacy, competence, and global self-worth. Only selected forms of leisure had these effects; e.g., achievement leisure enhanced self-efficacy and social leisure enhanced competence. (Contains 31 references.) (SK)
