Competence and Affect in Task Involvement and Ego Involvement: The Impact of Social Comparison Information.
Jagacinski, Carolyn M.; Nicholls, John G.
Journal of Educational Psychology, v79 n2 p107-14 Jun 1987
Two studies investigated the impact of information about the effort and performance of others on students' anticipated affects and judgments of competence given success in task-involving and ego-involving contexts. Without social comparison information, competence and positive affects were judged higher when students were asked to imagine succeeding with high effort. (Author/LMO)
