Karate Kid: Games and Activities for Introducing Karate to Early Elementary Students
Aljadeff-Abergel, Elian
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (JOPERD), v82 n4 p33-38 Apr 2011
Karate can contribute to learning in all three domains (psychomotor, cognitive, and affective), even in elementary-age children. Nevertheless, physical education teachers receive minimal or no training in teaching karate in school settings and are skeptical about doing so. The purpose of this article is to enable physical educators to teach themselves five fundamental karate techniques that they can teach to their elementary students. The description of each technique is accompanied by a series of demonstrative pictures, suggested activities, and modified games. (Contains 1 table and 5 figures.)
