Creating Collaborative Advantage.
Huxham, Chris, Ed.
Although interorganizational collaboration is becoming increasingly significant as a means of achieving organizational objectives, it is not an easy process to implement. Drawing on the work of authors with extensive experience, an accessible introduction to the theory and practice of creating collaborative advantage is presented in this volume. Part 1 includes an introduction and chapter 1, "Collaboration and Collaborative Advantage" (Chris Huxham). Part 2, "Rationales and Contexts for Collaboration" includes the following chapters: (2) "On the Theory and Practice of Transformational Collaboration from Social Service to Social Justice" (Arthur Turovh Himmelman); (3) "The Stakeholder/Collaborator Strategy Workshop" (Colin Eden); and (4) "Cross-Sectoral Partners: Collaborative Alliances among Business, Government, and Communities" (Barbara Gray). Part 3, "Collaboration in Practice: Key Issues" includes: (5) "Collaborative Working and the Issue of Sustainability" (Steve Cropper); (6) "Five Obstacles to Community-Based Collaboration and Some Thoughts on Overcoming Them" (David Sink); and (7) "Involving the Community: Collaboration for Community Development" (Catherine Barr and Chris Huxham). Part 4, "Intervention Processes for Collaboration" includes: (8) "The Role of Facilitation in Collaborative Groups" (Sandor P. Schuman); (9) "Group Decision Support for Collaboration" (Chris Huxham); (10) "Utilizing Stakeholder Strategies for Positive Collaborative Outcomes" (Charles B. Finn); and (11) "Inter-Organizational Collaboration in the Policy Preparation Process" (Arnold de Jong). Part 5, "Closure" includes the final chapter, (12) "The Search for Collaborative Advantage" (Chris Huxham). (RJM)
