Promising Practices To Connect Schools with the Community. Family, School, Community Partnership.
Hiatt-Michael, Diana B., Ed.
This monograph is the second in a series, whose purpose is to provide practitioners and researchers a forum for securing the most current knowledge pertinent to family, school, and community partnership issues. This publication focuses on emerging practices that link communities and schools, especially creating the school as the hub for school-linked services and providing opportunities for the students to connect with the community. The school community is explored in eight chapters: (1) "Introduction: The School-Community Connection" (Diana R. Hiatt-Michael); (2) "Educational Reform: The Community Schools Approach" (Martin J. Blank); (3) "A Full-Service Community School" (Joy G. Dryfuss); (4) "School-Linked Service Programs: Opportunities and Challenges" (Nancy Feyl Chavkin); (5) "Schools and Communities Working Together to Implement Youth Behavioral Health Programs" (Carl I. Fertman); (6) "School-Business Partnerships" (Mary Ann Burke); (7) "Community Museums Support School Curriculum" (Lorrie Beaumont); and (8) "Improving K-16 Education Through School-Community-University Partnerships" (Barbara Lieb). This monograph reflects the thrust of the federal direction created by the No Child Left Behind Act. (RT)
