This document summarizes the key data and main findings of the book, "The Economic Consequences of Immigration into the United States." All immigrants, not only those who are illegal, are included in the discussion. Immigrants, it is concluded, raise the standard of living of the residents of the host country, rather than lowering it as is popularly supposed. The negative impact of immigrants is largely through the use of schools, hospitals, and public housing. However, immigrants pay more in taxes than the cost of the welfare services and schooling that they use--every year an average immigrant family puts about $1,500 into the pockets of natives.
