Construction and Analysis of Classroom Tests.
Izard, J. F.
This material provides a discussion of the construction and analysis of tests prepared for classroom use by teachers. The initial discussion is concerned with the purposes of evaluation and the specification of objectives. This is followed by an examination of theoretical and practical considerations in planning a test. The material on test item writing is followed by examination of item faults. Techniques are provided for the improvement of tests by empirical trial and subsequent analysis. Methods of estimating test reliability are discussed together with an examination of test validity. The final chapter discusses scaling of marks and implications for composite scores. The first appendix provides tables of squares and square roots, and tables for estimating standard error of measurement. Other appendices describe practical steps to be followed in the analysis of test results and discuss the use of the binomial model to obtain decision rules for multiple-choice tests. (Author/MV)
