Three eminent scientists wonder whether man can retain his humanity and ideals--what little may be left of them--in the face of rapid and radical changes being fostered and perhaps imposed by science and its technical applications and misapplications. Fuller's lecture, comprising the bulk of the volume, is a multidisciplinary and provocative warning against man's tendency to overspecialize his species. The three lectures point to the many things that could be done, and done now, to improve the quality of life on this planet, if national and world priorities were reoriented toward the creation of a more benign environment.
