While many college physical geography instructors already use a wide variety of creative teaching approaches in their classes, others have not yet been exposed to teaching with toys, household items, or food. The goal in this article is to present some ideas for teaching college-level physical geography (weather/climate and geomorphology) for instructors who are not yet familiar with these ideas and to share some experiences with this approach. While these activities were tested with undergraduate university students, these activities can also be used in the K-12 school setting with some adjustments for different grade levels. To get feedback from students, a small group of undergraduate students (both geography majors and non-geographers) was invited to try out a number of different activities. The students were observed (and photographed) as they did the various activities, and asked for written evaluations and reflections through an anonymous feedback form with open-ended questions. Additionally, the two authors who teach lab sections of physical geography classes asked students in their large enrollment physical geography classes for feedback about various lab activities used that semester. The intention was that these examples and the student feedback would stimulate more instructors to include a wide variety of activities in their physical geography classes.
