Content Management: If You Build It Right, They Will Come
Starkman, Neal
T.H.E. Journal, v33 n13 p20 Aug 2006
According to James Robertson, the managing director of Step Two Designs, a content management consultancy, "A content management system supports the creation, management, distribution, publishing, and discovery of corporate information. It covers the complete lifecycle of the pages of one's site, from providing simple tools to create the content, through to publishing, and finally to archiving." The benefits of a good content management system include: (1) streamlined authoring process; (2) faster turnaround time; (3) greater consistency; (4) improved site navigation and flexibility; (5) support for decentralized authoring; (6) increased security; (7) reduced duplication of information; (8) greater capacity for growth; and (9) reduced site maintenance costs. This article describes several examples of content management systems (Savvy Software, CommonSpot, MindManager) that have been successfully implemented in schools and classrooms.
