Changes in medical and health care since 1935 are reviewed and factors affecting medicine and physician training in the future are examined, including technology, economic factors, role of government, physician social responsibility, and the medical culture. Oregon Health Sciences University's efforts to develop clinical and population-based skills of its medical students are described. (MSE)
