At the Public Policy General Session held June 30 during IACLEA's 50th Anniversary Annual Conference, FBI Director Robert S. Mueller told the audience that through its partnerships with IACLEA and other law enforcement organizations and agencies, the FBI has made great strides in combating both crime and terrorism in the communities and on campuses. Mueller said the FBI is working with U.S. colleges and universities in a number of ways. These include assistance during crisis management. Another example is the Critical Incident Response Group, which works to prevent and mitigate school violence. The FBI is also working with the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S Department of Education to study rampage shootings on college campuses. The results of this study will be disseminated to FBI and Secret Service field offices, Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) personnel, and law enforcement agencies to better prepare them to detect and deter future school violence. The FBI is also collaborating with campus public safety agencies on several ongoing partnerships, including its JTTFs, the Law Enforcement Online (LEO) network, and the FBI Police Executive Fellowship Program. To date there are 22 campus law enforcement officers on Joint Terrorism Task Forces across the country.
