The Influence of Cognitive Psychology on Testing. Buros-Nebraska Symposium on Measurement and Testing (3rd, Lincoln, Nebraska, 1985). Volume 3.
Ronning, Royce R., Ed.; And Others
The 1985 Buros-Nebraska Symposium was devoted to the broad issue of the influence of cognitive psychology on testing and measurement. The (1) "Introduction: The Implications of Cognitive Psychology for Testing" (Royce R. Ronning et. al.) lists four major issues addressed by the symposium--cognitive psychology as a basis for questioning some assumptions about the nature of mental abilities, the influence of cognitive psychology on test development, cognitive psychology's influences on test validity, and cognitive psychology as a means of linking testing and measurement. Under the heading "The Cognitive-Psychometric Connection" are: (2) "Science, Technology, and Intelligence" (Earl Hunt); (3) "Toward a Cognitive Theory for the Measurement of Achievement" (Robert Glaser et. al.); and (4) "The "g" beyond Factor Analysis" (Arthur R. Jensen). Under "Cognitive Approaches to Psychometric Issues: Application" are: (5) "The Assessment of Cognitive Factors in Academic Abilities" (Stephen L. Benton and Kenneth A. Kiewra); and (6) "Theoretical Implications from Protocol Analysis on Testing and Measurement" (K. Anders Ericsson). Under "Methodological Issues" are: (7) "Structure and Process in Cognitive Psychology Using Multidimensional Scaling and Related Techniques" (Edward J. Shoben and Brian H. Ross); and (8) "New Perspectives in the Analysis of Abilities" (John B. Carroll). (SLD)
