What Next? Futuristic Scenarios for Creative Problem Solving.
Myers, Robert E.; Torrance, E. Paul
This book contains 52 units designed to assist teachers in helping their students improve their creative writing and communication skills, improve their skills in creative problem solving, and enlarge, enrich, and make more accurate their images of the future. Each unit begins with an overview of the activity, an explanation of the creative thinking skill to be developed, and suggestions for preparing for the unit, presenting the unit, and for the writing assignment. The introduction is following by a student activity. Some of the activities presented include: writing an advertisement for a new product; exploring how unfortunate happenings could be a blessing in disguise; writing a fortune; writing an editorial on an endangered species; describing future wars; describing a lunar extravaganza; writing a poem; describing an invention; inventing futuristic acronyms; developing rhymed verse; making predictions about handling guilt in the future; writing futuristic news articles; writing limericks; writing a dramatic skit; naming unborn offspring; using alliteration; and writing short stories. Three or four levels of involvement are provided in each activity or unit to motivate students to do a variety of creative writing. (CR)
