The office of the Los Angeles Superintendent of schools has provided program audit consultation service within the county school and community college districts. A procedure, "Audit Dress Rehearsal," which lowers anxiety and raises awareness of concern for program success by allowing program personnel to practice the evaluation/audit processes, is presented. The Keep It Simple Safe and Supportive (K.I.S.S.S.) principle is discussed in the educational programs. The auditor is described as independent from the program to be audited and is a reviewer, not a decision maker. Some audit results are listed and the seven stages of the process are given. Part 1 discusses the Mentally Gifted Minors Program at Rowland Unified School District and how the Audit Dress Rehearsal was conceived, conducted and what results were found. Part 2 presents the Los Angeles Community College Districts Handicapped College Students Program, the audit, and audit dress rehearsal. Part 3 discusses the Pomona Unified School District's Emergency School Aid Act (ESAA) Pilot program to reduce racial isolation and educational disadvantages. The ESAA was the first program to benefit from an Audit Dress Rehearsal. Appendices describe the evaluation services and the Audit Dress Rehearsal Survey. (CM)
