Unified Technical Concepts. Module 11: Vibrations and Waves.
Technical Education Research Center, Waco, TX.
This concept module on vibrations and waves is one of thirteen modules that provide a flexible, laboratory-based physics instructional package designed to meet the specialized needs of students in two-year, postsecondary technical schools. Each of the thirteen concept modules discusses a single physics concept and how it is applied to each energy system. This module examines wave motion in general and discusses common examples of vibrations and waves. Included with the concept module are seventeen application modules that discuss a specific application of a single concept in a single energy system, and contain a student laboratory exercise. Laboratory modules included are Speed of Sound in Materials, Reflection and Absorption of Sound Energy, Vibration Isolation, Resonance, Sound Speakers, Cavity Vibrations and Standing Waves, Speaker Enclosures, Reverberation Time, Doppler Effect, Pressure Measurement of Sound Waves, Alternating Voltage and Current, Phase Relationships in Alternating Circuits, Oscilloscope, Rectifiers, Electronic Filtering in Direct Current Power Supplies, Electronic Filtering for Frequency Selection, and Modulation of Electrical Waves.
