Shaping the Curriculum: The Power of a Library's Digital Resources
Kirkwood, Patricia
Computers in Libraries, v31 n4 p6-10 May 2011
Researchers were the first adopters of digital resources available through the library. Online journals and databases make finding research articles much easier than when this author started as a librarian more than 20 years ago. Speedier interlibrary loan due to digital delivery means research materials are never far away. Making it easier for students to locate quality information is one of the most important parts of this author's job. To do this, she works with fellow librarians to select materials students need and develop web navigation tools to lead students to those resources. She then works with faculty members to design assignments and research tasks that teach the value of respected resources. Then she helps students use tools to successfully obtain literature and data in an efficient and effective manner. In this article, the author presents the steps she uses to integrate digital library resources into the curriculum. (Contains 4 figures.)
