Designed to provide the basic knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to prepare job-ready machinist trainees, these instructional materials focus on the following areas of trade and industrial education: orientation, basic and related technology, hand and bench work, and power saws and drilling machines. Suitable for use in secondary, postsecondary, or adult education classes, these materials are competency based in that the objectives of each unit are measurable to a minimum standard of acceptance. A total of 14 units are included in the four sections. Covered in the units are machine trades orientation, general shop safety, basic math, blueprints, rules, micrometer measuring tools, vernier measuring tools, materials and cutting fluids, hand tools, pedestal grinders, power saws, and drill presses. Each unit includes the following components: performance objectives, suggested activities, information sheets, transparency masters, assignment sheets, job sheets, tests, and answers to tests and assignment sheets.
