The first year is the first step on a teacher's journey to the future. So often, however, because teaching requires living in the present, teachers give little thought to the future. The students they are teaching will likely live to the very edge of the twenty-first century and possibly into the twenty-second century. This article suggest some ways that teachers can prepare these students for the opportunities and challenges they will face in a more diverse and complex global society.
