Space Technology To Meet Future Needs.

The thrust of this book is to indicate relative priorities of technology and the rationale for investment in United States space technology to meet future needs as assessed by the Committee on Advanced Space Technology. In part one, a discussion of potential mission sets is given, including: (1) "Mission Requirements for Space Transportation; (2) "Space Science and Applications: Technology Driver Missions"; (3) "Defense Space Research and Development Requirements and Technology Drivers"; and (4) "Humans in Space." In part two, recommendations are made regarding adequate programs in the technology areas of "Propulsion"; "Technology for Humans in Space"; "Life Support Systems"; "Automation, Robotics, and Autonomous Systems"; "Power"; "Materials and Structures"; "Information and Control Systems"; and "Sensors." In part three, rough priorities and estimated costs of each of the technology areas are discussed. Included is a bibliography and a list of participants. (ML)
