Relations between Money and Love in Postdivorce Families: Children's Perspectives
Haugen, Gry Mette D.
Childhood: A Global Journal of Child Research, v12 n4 p507-526 2005
This article examines and theorizes complex relations and trade-offs concerning money and love, arguing that children's viewpoint can illuminate the question of money in postdivorce families in new and insightful ways. The analysis is inspired by ideas about economic sociology put forward by Marcia Millman and Viviana Zelizer. The article argues that children's points of view challenge the traditional sociological division between money and love as two separate spheres. The article focuses on the meaning of money, and how money becomes a currency for both love and care, presenting the argument with both empirical examples and theoretical discussion.
