Celebrating a Jubilee of Compassion and Engagement in Dominican Higher Education
Heille, Gregory
Journal of Catholic Higher Education, v35 n1 p5-15 Win 2016
In 2016, as the Catholic Church celebrates an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, the Dominican friars celebrate their 800th Jubilee year. Recent meetings of the Biennial Colloquium of Dominican Colleges and Universities have discussed the virtue of mercy as it pertains to its educational mission. If the Dominican Movement can be characterized by the virtues of intellectual humility and pastoral compassion, educators at Dominican colleges and graduate schools need only turn to Pope Francis's call in "Evangelii Gaudium" for all the baptized to be missionary disciples at the peripheries in order to set Dominican mission in context for putting faith into action today.
