These proceedings of a symposium organized by the chemistry department of the University of Maryland contain the texts of addresses given to approximately 200 chemistry teachers and educators from adjacent areas. An outline of the University of Maryland undergraduate chemistry curriculum is given and a summary of discussions between school and university chemistry teachers presented. The necessity for stating performance objectives is indicated. Included are papers on structure of drugs, the relationship between wave length of polarized light and crystal structure, the origin of elements as stable combinations of neutrons and protons, recent studies in inorganic chemistry, the chemistry of DNA molecules, the composition of lunar rocks, chemistry of environmental changes, brain biochemistry, polywater, clinical electroanalytical techniques, and a survey of international chemistry teaching. Discussions that followed the papers are reported. Lists of participants and University of Maryland chemistry department faculty conclude the illustrated volume. (AL)
