Easy Access: Auditing the System Network
Wiech, Dean
School Business Affairs, v79 n4 p15-16 Apr 2013
In today's electronic learning environment, access to appropriate systems and data is of the utmost importance to students, faculty, and staff. Without proper access to the school's internal systems, teachers could be prevented from logging on to an online learning system and students might be unable to submit course work to an online folder. Outdated data not only bogs down districts' systems, it also can present a security risk. This article states that to ensure that access to applications and sensitive data is open enough to allow users to do their jobs and restrictive enough to avoid legal complications, setting controls and regularly reviewing any changes to their profiles are important. These two factors will allow for easy compliance reporting at audit time. As such, the article describes granting access rights, and conducting an audit.
