The book represents an effort to assess the performance, structure, and direction of the Job Bank Program of the Public Employment Service, a program meant to improve the functioning of the labor market information system in the United States. The research had three goals: to assess the relative goal achievement of job banks; to determine its optimal organizational configuration; and to learn what effect feedback of performance results and recommendations had on program structure and direction. The initial chapter briefly reviews the problems under study and summarizes the findings. Chapter 2 describes the Job Bank Program and the authors' approach to studying its performance and decisions affecting its direction and structure. Chapter 3 contains findings and recommendations concerning the optimal design configuration for job banks and findings concerning the extent to which job banks are achieving their goals. Chapter 4 presents findings about the effect of feedback on program administrators, and chapter 5 contains some concluding observations.
