Applying Learning Principles and Theories to Vocational Education.
Loomis, Linda Jacobsen; Prickett, Charlotte
This monograph is intended for use by vocational teachers, state supervisors, administrators, and curriculum developers as a resource guide in the development of sound curriculum for vocational programs in Arizona. It examines learning theories and principles and, where applicable, applies these ideas to vocational education. Chapter 1 introduces the topics of learning theories as teaching tools and their application. Each of the following eight chapters highlights a different learning theorist and identifies examples for vocational education teachers. After a brief overview of the learning theory in each chapter, specific principles are stated and outlined. These principles summarize the central idea expressed by the given theorist. The theorists are B. F. Skinner, Robert M. Gagne, Albert Bandura, Jerome Bruner, David P. Ausubel, Carl Rogers, Jean Piaget, and Robert Havighurst. Chapter 10 summarizes chapters 2-9 and again offers practical applications for vocational education. A listing of references is appended. (YLB)
