Experimental Study on the Intelligibility of Grave, Bisyllabic Spanish Words.

The present study, conducted at the Department of Audiology and Sciences, Michigan State University, consisted of determining the intelligibility of 648 Spanish stimulus-words arranged in a multiple-choice test of the two forms, A and B, each including 12 lists of approximately the same degree of difficulty. (Appendix.) This multiple-choice test includes 1,944 error-words and was constructed by Tosi, et.al. (1966). The 648 stimulus-words were sampled from a list of grave, bisyllabic words of common use in Spain and in Latin America, mostly taken from the doctoral dissertation by A.C. Ferrer (1957). The 1,944 error-words were determined to be the three most frequent words answered in error to each of the 648 stimulus-words, in written tests performed previously to the construction of the multiple-choice test.
