Perspectives: Policy and Practice in Higher Education, v19 n3 p79-83 2015
This article explores the new Legislative Act concerned with the "Risk of Being Drawn into Terrorism" and the need for "Preventing People Being Drawn into Terrorism." It provides consultation and guidance to specified authorities such as universities on how they should go about implementing this "Prevent" duty. The article will, in addition, briefly summarise the present statutory provisions concerning academic freedom and campus free speech/expression, and encourages universities to demonstrate their willingness to undertake "Prevent" awareness training for all staff so that they can recognise vulnerability to being drawn into terrorism, and be aware of what action to take in response.
