Cultural Diversity in AP Art History
Bolte, Frances R.
SchoolArts: The Art Education Magazine for Teachers, v105 n9 p35 May-Jun 2006
Teaching AP Art History is like running on a treadmill that is moving faster than a teacher can run. Many teachers are out of breath before the end of the term and wonder how in the world they can cover every chapter. Because time is short and art from pre-history through to the present, including the non-European traditions, must be covered, this author relates how she modified an assignment for her students to cover all the non-Western chapters and still make it through the book, "Gardner's Art through the Ages," by the exam date. The author relates how a non-Western cultural research paper assignment she designed for her students was very successful in deepening her students' understanding of art through culture.
