This study was undertaken to determine how the press and broadcasting media report issues pertaining to ethnic minorities and race relations, and the extent to which ethnic minorities are given the opportunity to use these channels for information, entertainment, and cultural satisfaction. A sample of 1,192 Asians living in the Leicester City District area was interviewed concerning radio listening and television viewing patterns. Results are reported by specific programs, and by sex and demographic characteristics of the listeners/viewers. Specific needs of Asians living in England are identified, and the role the media can play in meeting these needs is discussed. Sweden's efforts in providing special programs for ethnic minority groups are compared to those in England. Finally, recommendations are made for improving broadcasting for ethnic minorities. Appendices include tables, descriptions of Asian language programs, selections from "Report of the Committee on the Future of Broadcasting" (London, 1977), and the interview schedule used in the study.
