Four of the articles in this publication discuss the remote sensing of the Earth and its resources by satellites. Among the topics dealt with are the development and management of remote sensing systems, types of satellites used for remote sensing, the uses of remote sensing, and issues involved in using information obtained through remote sensing. Other articles deal with the following topics: broadcasting in Saudi Arabia, possible threats to air traffic safety posed by interference between radio navigation signals and other radio signals, unexplored options for public service and citizen information uses of satellite technology, major problems in Arab mass communication studies, and the use of radio signals in searching for life on other planets. Brief notes are provided on broadcasting events in the United States and many other countries, including the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Nordic countries, Ireland, and Angola. (GW)
