Air Pollution.
Gilpin, Alan
A summary of one of our most pressing environmental problems, air pollution, is offered in this book by the Director of Air Pollution Control for the Queensland (Australia) State Government. Discussion of the subject is not restricted to Queensland or Australian problems and policies, however, but includes analysis of air pollution the world over. It deals with the causes and effects of air pollution and the major incidents which have compelled attention to the problem, assesses legislation used to combat it in Great Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, and discusses techniques of control, and the economics of such control. References, a reading list, and chart of units recommended by the World Health Organization for air sampling and analysis are included in the appendix. While the general reader will find the book comprehensible, it would be especially useful as an introductory text in schools and universities for students of engineering, the social sciences, and biology.
