The Social Issues Resources Series (described more fully in SO 003 775) was developed to: 1) Create a continuous flow of resources for the teacher and student with which to apply the methods of inquiry, problem-solving, and creative research; 2) provide resources of diverse scope and comprehensiveness; 3) encourage the study of contemporary issues as a central element of the curriculum; 4) familiarize students with the wide variety of magazines, newspapers and journals important to a well informed citizen; and 5) develop analytical reading habits that will transfer to adult life. This volume on pollution contains articles dating from 1959, when the condition began to be widely recognized, to December of 1971. A wide range of views and sources are represented.
