This research was designed to answer the question, "What are the characteristics of adult to student structured mentoring programs occurring in Christian high schools?" In the process of answering this question, the following two sub-questions were also answered: "What role does the mentor and mentee play in an adult to student structured mentoring program?"; "What are the common characteristics and common differences of adult to student structured mentoring programs?" A "structured mentoring program" was defined to be a mentoring program established for the purpose of giving spiritual instruction to a mentee (student) by a mentor (teacher or adult) who has been trained for such a purpose. This study involved administering a 28 question survey to Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) accredited high schools located in the United States and serving grades nine thru twelve. One hundred and fifty-seven schools responded to the survey. One hundred and two (64.9%) schools of the 157 said they did not have a structured mentoring program while 55 (35.1%) schools have a structured mentoring program. Of these 55 schools, 31 (57.7%) said they had a structured peer mentoring program. This left 24 (42.3%) schools that have a structured mentoring program for the purpose of giving spiritual instruction to a student from an adult. Nineteen (79.1%) schools had a program that had existed for less than 10 years, with either a teacher or principal overseeing the program. Of the 24 schools who said they provided a structured adult to student mentoring program, 16 (66.6%) schools classified their programs as either "very effective" or "effective". This descriptive study provided a part of the foundational literature base for further study on best practices of adult to student structured mentoring programs in Christian high schools in the United States.
