The Writing Workshop. Vol. 2.
Ziegler, Alan
The second of two volumes, this book is primarily concerned with the teaching of creative writing at any grade level, although some ideas may not be applicable to teaching very young students. This volume focuses on how to generate writing assignments, and while it is designed for classroom teachers, it can also be used by individual writers. Following a brief introduction, the book is divided into four sections: (1) "About Assignments," including assignment strategies, assignment making, and assignment presenting; (2) "Openers," describing 10 activities geared for quick success to help the writing workshop get off the ground in a non-threatening way; (3) "Orientations," focusing on the various "places" where writers find ideas; and (4) "A Catalogue of Assignments," presenting 60 writing assignments.
