Experiencia Pedagogica con Adolescentes Paraliticos Cerebrales: La Musica, Un Elemento Rehabilitador (A Pedagogical Experience with Teenage Cerebral Paralytics Using Music as a Rehabilitating Element).
Colomer, Marta; And Others
The monograph describes efforts carried out in the Department of Work Therapy of a center for cerebral paralysis in Barcelona, Spain. The rehabilitation program incorporated music and movement in an attempt to develop the musical ear, sensitivity, and a sensorial education. The program stresses rhythm, melody, harmony, voice, musical audition, and rhythmic and melodic reading. Specific exercises are intended to remedy a dysfunction in motor coordination by having students think about each movement and consciously vary speed, resistance, etc. Feelings of anxiety regarding movement are considered. Goals for the 1978-79 and 1979-80 school period are reviewed, and skills listed for areas of motoricity, sound, inner audition, voice, rhythmic reading, melodic reading, rhythmic-melodic reading, audition, and song. The work program for 1979-80, which emphasizes reading skills, creativity, and motor skills, is summarized. Among results noted are that participants improved their neatness in written texts, their sense of rhythm, and their motor precision. (CL)
