Leadership 101: Developing Leadership Skills for Resilient Youth. Facilitator's Guide [and] Student Workbook.
MacGregor, Mariam
This facilitator's guide and student workbook package includes a high school curriculum designed to establish a foundation for adolescent/young adult leadership education programs. It targets diverse, at-risk teenagers, presenting an adaptable and broad-based perspective of leadership. The facilitator's guide takes instructors and students through various leadership concepts and experiential skill-building activities. In addition to affective components, students have significant academic responsibilities as they explore, practice, and understand their own philosophy of leadership within the school and community setting. After an introduction, the guide presents the curriculum activities as follows: defining leadership; qualities of leadership/good leader; X/Y theory-power-influence/authority; communication; consensus; ethical decision making; team building; gender differences in leadership styles; leadership and tolerance; motivation; risk taking and decision making; creative thinking; and closure/appreciation. The workbook includes worksheets with the following subjects: what makes a good leader; human behaviors; types of power; authority versus influence; ethics definitions; making ethical leadership decisions; kitchener's principles; team building; taking risks; and excuses. Each section includes sample worksheets. Several appendixes offer a sample action plan, class schedule, class syllabus, research paper, and examinations. (Contains 28 references.) (SM)
