Business Mathematics Curriculum Guide.
Ebersole, Benjamin P., Comp.; And Others
This revised course in business mathematics emphasizes computations needed for problem solving, but greater attention is focused on mathematical principles that were developed in previous grades. In addition, the course aims to develop further an understanding of business principles and practices which can be used in gainful employment and in the conduct of personal business affairs. Topics discussed are: the philosophy of business education, the objectives and organization of the course, and instructional techniques (teacher preparation, psychological guides, lesson planning, tricks of the trade, individual differences, evaluation, and preliminary inventory of skills). The course is divided into nine units on: fundamental operations and applications, borrowing money, numeration systems, computing payroll, expressing relationships of business data, income tax, operating a business, and managing family finance. Each unit contains an introduction, objectives, scope of the unit, course content, detailed teaching suggestions and activities, and references (codes and pages used). Appended are a five-page bibliography of codes used; lists of books, pamphlets, workbooks, films and filmstrips; and tests on understanding verbal expressions and fundamental skills. (Author/BP)
