Data on the 1970-79 conditions of Ontario universities that were used in the derivation of macro-indicators are presented. The supporting data cover the following areas: operating revenue in Ontario universities; operating expenditures; distribution of academic salaries, nonacademic salaries, employee benefits; and nonsalary operating expenditures; eligible full-time equivalent enrollment and basic income units; full-time faculty and average salaries of full-time faculty in professorial ranks and index of academic salaries; and average weekly earnings. Overall objectives of the data collection, development of macro-indicators and analyses were as follows: (1) to measure the real resources available to the Ontario university system as a function of the volume of activity over time; (2) to compare trends in the resources made available in other jurisdictions and to other provincially funded activities; and (3) to measure the changes in resource distribution within institutions, using data comparable between institutions.
