Comprehensive Early Stimulation Program for Infants. Instruction Manual [and] Early Interventionist's Workbook [and] Parent/Caregiver Workbook. William Beaumont Hospital Speech and Language Pathology Series.
Santana, Altagracia A.; Bottino, Patti M.
This early intervention kit includes a Comprehensive Early Stimulation Program for Infants (CESPI) instruction manual, an early interventionist workbook, and ten parent/caregiver workbooks. The CESPI early intervention program is designed to provide therapists, teachers, other health professionals, and parents with a common-sense, practical guide that describes how to implement effective early intervention speech, language, cognition, and social skills programs in an easy-to-follow format. It presents a whole child approach to speech, language and cognitive stimulation, and includes sensory and motor components to enhance learning through whole-body experiences. The instruction manual describes the therapy rationale and objectives, provides a program outline of the 24 modules that follow a developmental milestones continuum, lists materials needed, describes how to modify modules to address individual needs, considers safety issues, emphasizes the need for parent/family involvement, and provides general tips for conducting the first session. Appendices include a parent information sheet; information on sensory integration activities, oral stimulation, and phonetic symbols used in the modules; a developmental skills chart; additional songs and rhymes; and 18 organizational resources and 56 references. The early interventionist workbook contains step-by-step instructions for conducting the modules and the parent/caregiver workbook includes related assignments. (CR)
