This summary describes the research evidence that supports the use of the instructional tips in classrooms and is based on a practice guide authored by Sybilla Beckmann, Mark Driscoll, Megan Franke, Patricia Herzig, Asha Jitendra, Kenneth R. Koedinger, Philip Ogbuehi, and John Woodward. Provided is a summary of evidence on instructional tips for: (1) Assisting Students in Monitoring and Reflecting on the Problem-Solving Process; (2) Teaching Students to Use Visual Representations to Solve Problems; and (3) Helping Students Make Sense of Algebraic Notation.
