Re-examines the classic hypothesis that a relationship exists between racial contact and racial attitudes in the context of recent racial separatism in the military. Finds that the hypothesis coexists with a new divisive force: stronger separatist attitudes and reduced racial contacts on the part of younger Black soldiers. (Author/KC)
