This book is designed to help educators find curricula, multimedia resources, and other educational materials that can enhance the teaching of environmental education in a variety of settings. Curriculum materials included in this compendium were evaluated using a set of guidelines developed by the North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE). These guidelines highlight six key characteristics of high-quality environmental education materials: (1) fairness and accuracy; (2) depth; (3) emphasis on skills building; (4) action orientation; (5) instructional soundness; and (6) usability. The first section of this resource guide details approximately 50 environmental education curriculum materials. Entries are listed alphabetically and each contains a summary of the curriculum; information about grade level, subject areas, author, publisher, and price; comments specific to the six key characteristics; and a sample of quotations from the reviewers' evaluation sheets. The second section contains an annotated listing of support materials. Following this section is a matrix that cross-lists all of the materials and their various characteristics. Curriculum materials cover such subjects as recycling, environmental chemistry, geology, biodiversity, deforestation, butterflies and other insects, rainforests, wetlands, and agriculture. (PVD)
